How to contact a seller
First impressions matter. A clear, respectful message improves your chances of useful answers and a smooth handover.
What to include in the first message
Briefly introduce yourself and reference the listing (title or link). Ask about availability, condition, and whether you can inspect in person. If you negotiate, suggest a realistic range—avoid aggressive pressure.
Avoid copy-paste spam to many sellers; those messages are often ignored.
- Confirm the listing is still available
- Ask about defects or accessories
- Suggest a time window and a safe public place to meet
Communication channels
Use the platform’s messaging or contact button where provided. If a phone number is shown, call at reasonable hours and summarise agreements in writing after you agree on price and place—this reduces misunderstandings.
Do not move to random apps immediately if the account looks suspicious or you are asked for upfront payment without justification.
Negotiation and healthy boundaries
Negotiation is normal—stay professional and accept a polite “no” if the price is firm. Do not tie viewing to advance payment; for second-hand goods, physical inspection matters when possible.
Meeting for handover
Agree on time and place in advance. Prefer well-lit public places for small items; for bulky goods or vehicles, verify identity and documents on site. Do not go alone to isolated locations with strangers.
If the seller keeps postponing or changes terms abruptly, reconsider and read the scam recognition guide.
When something feels wrong
Stop if you are asked for SMS codes, unusual payment routes, or transfers to third parties. Report the listing and keep screenshots if you may need evidence later.
